Exorcist Reports Complex Cases of Possession Linked to Crime in Quintana Roo

Priest José Luis Laris Maures, a Vatican-authorized exorcist in Quintana Roo, Mexico

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A Vatican-authorized exorcist in Mexico’s Quintana Roo state has reported treating two complex cases of alleged demonic possession involving individuals linked to organized crime in the resort city of Playa del Carmen.

Priest José Luis Laris Maures, an exorcist authorized by both the Vatican and the Cancún-Chetumal Diocese, said he successfully resolved both cases through faith-based intervention. He described them as the most challenging episodes he has faced in his ministry.

“They have been the most complex cases I have had to confront; they stemmed from dark pacts by individuals immersed in negative activities, but they ultimately understood it was not the right path,” Laris Maures said. “Fortunately, we achieved their liberation, and they now lead stable lives.”

The priest indicated both individuals were involved in crimes such as drug trafficking, extortion, and homicide, and had turned to Satanism in an attempt to achieve their goals, with severe consequences.

Due to the confidential nature of his work, Laris Maures said he cannot reveal specific details about the individuals, but noted the case files are now part of the Vatican’s archives.

The exorcist, who also serves as parish priest at the Church of the Virgin of San Juan in Cancún, emphasized the importance of spiritual connection, particularly during the Lenten season leading up to Easter.

“Love for God and Jesus, especially in this period and with Holy Week approaching, is the best defense against evil,” he said. “It is necessary to maintain a close relationship with Him to recognize His sacrifice and receive protection from any temptation.”

Laris Maures said his work is inspired by the Virgin Mary, to whom he entrusts his pastoral duties daily. “She plays a fundamental role; I thank her for her guidance in helping those seeking liberation from any harmful influence,” he added.

The priest maintained close ties with the emeritus bishop of Quintana Roo, Jorge Bernal Vargas, also an authorized exorcist, whose support along with that of the late Bishop Pedro Pablo Elizondo Cárdenas influenced his appointment to handle such cases in the region.

Laris Maures also participated in exorcism work in Brazil, where he addressed at least 20 similar situations under Vatican commission.

He continues to officiate masses and lead healing services across Quintana Roo’s 11 municipalities.
