Estefanía Mercado Triumphs in Solidaridad Mayoral Race by 28K Votes

The closely watched election for the Solidaridad City Council in Playa Del Carmen concluded with a significant victory for the Morena-PVEM-PT alliance. Estefanía Mercado was officially certified as the elected mayor of Solidaridad early Monday morning, after more than 20 hours of vote recounting and calculations by the 09 District Board of the Quintana Roo Electoral Institute (Ieqroo). Mercado, along with her team, received the certificate at 6:30 am, culminating in a total of 77,431 votes. This represented a substantial lead of 28,425 votes over her closest competitor, Lili Campos Miranda, from the PAN-PRI alliance.

Upon receiving the certificate, Mercado expressed her gratitude to her voters for entrusting her with the three-year mayoral term in this district. "We owe a commitment to the more than 77,000 residents of Solidaridad who placed their trust in us. Today, we have become the most voted project in Playa del Carmen and Solidaridad," she stated. The Morena candidate urged the community and political parties to work towards peace in Solidaridad and to put aside their differences. "Our team's sole aim in Solidaridad is to ensure well-being and political and social peace. We all need to work together to achieve social peace," she added.

Mercado also indicated that upon assuming office, she would review the Urban Development Programs (PDU), which have not been updated since 2011, and all areas of the City Council. This review is aimed at preventing any potential avenues for corruption within the municipality. The certificate presentation was attended by members of Mercado's team, numerous supporters, and elected district 10 Deputy Maria José Osorio. The process took approximately 22 hours, primarily due to a significant percentage of the electoral packages being recounted at the request of the PAN-PRI coalition. This led to delays in the calculation and resulted in the final results being announced several hours later than expected, despite the significant vote margin between the two candidates.
