José María Morelos, Quintana Roo — Erik Borges Yam, the mayor of José María Morelos, is facing criticism for acquiring an additional taxi concession, a move described as adding to the negative perception of his political party, MORENA, during a period of national and international scandal.
Ángel Ramírez Hernández, writing for CAMBIO 22, stated that one must be “very naive or too stupid” not to understand the turbulent times MORENA is experiencing, or be “so poor that the only thing you seek in life is to make money.” The article suggests the latter applies to Borges, who “preferred to add one more license plate concession to his bulging fortune and sow more negatives in his political party.”
It is known, as the saying goes, that “excessive ambition leads people vilely, and to climb, one adopts the same posture to crawl.”
The article notes that Borges is doing MORENA a “great favor” by not wanting to go unnoticed amid so much scandal, adding to it. It calls him “foolish, to say the least,” in a world where technology through Uber contributes to the collapse of the public transport business, devaluing taxi licenses, while Borges “decides to dirty his hands.”
When one might think a devalued taxi concession in José María Morelos, the Maya heart of Quintana Roo, costs 150 or 200 thousand pesos, “is it worth it?” the article asks, especially when his party is on the eve of a popular election process and disputing positions with the Greens.
“You will say, these political figures do not contribute to the hard work done by Governor Mara Lezama for the good of the state, quite the contrary, they do terrible damage,” the article states.
And “crickets” like Erik Borges, because they cannot be called politicians, abound in the state, men and women whose only goal is to profit from power, according to the article.
MORENA, the National Regeneration Movement of AMLO, is experiencing the worst moment of its short history, with corruption, drug trafficking, and violation of the rule of law as its common denominator, the article asserts.
It suggests this exposes the weakened and compromised Mexican international agenda, so weakened that it is in the sights of the United States, Mexico’s main trading partner, which seeks to invade, even if among friends.
“Undoubtedly, what Erik Borges does would not exist if there were people like him, ambitious and corrupt, in agencies like IMOVEQROO, for example, where they endorsed his trick, or you, what do you think?” the article concludes.
