Ensenada Triathlete’s Recovery Progress After Ironman Collapse

Ensenada, B.C. — Triathlete Leonardo Durazo León from Ensenada experienced health complications during his participation in the Ironman 70.3 event held in Cozumel this past Sunday, September 21.

According to family members, the competitor was immediately transferred to a hospital on the island, where he initially remained intubated and under deep sedation to stabilize his vital signs.

The most recent medical reports indicate that the athlete is no longer intubated, is awake, responsive to stimuli, and maintaining a favorable evolution under specialized medical supervision. Durazo's family confirmed that the medical attention process has been continuous and that the focus remains on the comprehensive recovery of the athlete, who remains in a hospital care area.

The Ironman 70.3 Cozumel brought together hundreds of national and international athletes for swimming, cycling, and running races. During the event, the death of another participant was also recorded during the swimming stage, according to the event organizers.

The case of Leonardo Durazo has generated shows of solidarity from the sports community in Baja California and the rest of the country, who have expressed support for the competitor and his family.

The coming days will be decisive for the clinical evolution of the triathlete, according to sources close to the situation, who indicated that his health status will be monitored as the recovery process advances.
