Chetumal residents experienced a night of chaos due to a powerful storm that took the city by surprise. People out at cinemas, shops, and entertainment centers on payday were caught off guard as the storm hit. Despite warnings from Civil Protection, the severity of the storm went largely unnoticed by the community.

The heavy rain began around 9 p.m. and didn't let up until about 2 a.m. Light showers continued into Saturday morning. In response to the intense flooding caused by the torrential downpour, a state of emergency was declared in Chetumal.

Witnesses reported seeing stranded vehicles and flooded homes and businesses throughout Friday night and into the early hours of Saturday. The capital of Quintana Roo was significantly impacted by the deluge.

As the city woke on Saturday morning, the devastation left by the intense rainfall was clear. A trail of destruction was left in its wake, affecting homes, businesses, and government offices alike.

The primary concern among the community was the lack of adequate warning about the heavy rainfall. Many felt unprepared for the severity of the storm that hit in the last few hours.
