Cozumel, QR — The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) says they are investigating a fire that occurred early in the morning that left a Cozumel company destroyed. On Sunday, the State Attorney General’s Office indicated an electrical fault as the primary line of investigation into the fire that left Aviomar Adventours in ruins.
According to the company, the fire occurred during the night of December 20 and “is still pending clarification.” They reported that most of their equipment and part of their operational facilities were affected by the fire.
“Aviomar Adventours informs the public, partners, and clients that during the night of December 20 our ATV base camp in Cozumel has suffered an incident still pending clarification, resulting in a fire that caused significant damage to most of our equipment and part of the operational facilities,” they said in a statement released on Sunday afternoon.
“Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the situation was contained without affecting nearby communities.
“We are currently working closely with local authorities to follow all corresponding legal procedures and investigations to determine the origin of the incident. As a precautionary and responsible measure, Aviomar’s ATV operations will be temporarily suspended until further notice.
“Our team is actively evaluating the remaining inventory and assessing alternative operational solutions to resume service as soon as conditions allow, always prioritizing safety, quality, and compliance with regulations.
“We appreciate the understanding and support of our clients, partners, and the community. More updates will be shared as soon as additional information is available.
“Aviomar remains fully committed to providing safe, high-quality experiences and to the responsible recovery of this operation.”
On Sunday morning, the FGE also issued a brief statement about the fire and its investigation.
“The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE Quintana Roo) reports a fire that occurred early Sunday morning on a property in the municipality of Cozumel, authorities extinguished the fire, which only caused material damage, no injuries were reported.
“Currently the Attorney General’s Office of the Nation is conducting an investigation, with one of the main lines of investigation being a possible short circuit originating in one of the vehicles parked at the location, other lines of investigation are also being considered.
“The Attorney General’s Office continues its investigation to clarify the facts in accordance with the law. The Attorney General’s Office reaffirms its commitment to keep citizens informed and act in accordance with the principle of zero impunity.”
