Puerto Aventuras, Mexico — The neighborhoods of El Sauce, Las Torres, and Monte Sinai have been designated as the areas at greatest risk in the event of a hurricane this season, according to Puerto Aventuras Mayor Gilberto Gómez Martínez.
High-Risk Areas Due to Fragile Housing Structures
Following the establishment of the Specialized Committee on Hydrometeorological Phenomena in the municipality of Solidaridad, Mayor Gómez Martínez stated that eight temporary shelters are currently prepared for activation in case of an emergency. Residents of El Sauce, Las Torres, and Monte Sinai would be prioritized for evacuation due to the prevalence of fragile homes constructed with materials such as thatched roofs, sheet metal, and tin. These structures pose a significant danger to an estimated population of 3,000 to 4,000 people.
Marina and Remote Communities Also Addressed
Regarding the Puerto Aventuras Marina, the mayor confirmed that local businesses already have established protocols and shelters in place to safeguard vessels. The marina is also equipped to accommodate boats from other regions if necessary.
For more remote communities, including San Carlos and Uxuxubi, Mayor Gómez Martínez explained that the Civil Protection Secretariat will oversee preventive measures and emergency response coordination.
