El Cuyo Beach Festival Brings Big Crowds, Economic Boost

El Cuyo, Yucatán — The final weekend of the El Cuyo Beach Festival drew a larger influx of visitors than the previous week, giving a significant boost to the town’s tourism and commercial sectors.

Vacationers began arriving Friday night to fill rooms reserved at hotels and other lodging, and hotel occupancy was higher than during the festival’s first weekend.

By Saturday, the beach was noticeably busier, with sports activities and musical performances keeping attendees entertained throughout the day.

Service providers and hotel representatives said the economic impact was also greater than a week earlier, driven by the increase in visitors. Tourists included travelers from Quintana Roo and several inland municipalities of Yucatán, who came to enjoy beaches that remained free of sargassum seaweed, contrary to earlier concerns.

Authorities expect the festival to wrap up Sunday with no major incidents. As of Saturday, there had been no reports of drownings, public disturbances, or other significant safety problems, and security forces maintained a visible presence to protect visitors and prevent accidents. Unlike the previous weekend, when three traffic accidents were reported, no accidents had been recorded this time.
