Tulum, Quintana Roo — The municipal leadership of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in Tulum has been formally renewed with Edith Mendoza Pino sworn in as the new president of the Municipal Committee, accompanied by Fernando García Paulin as secretary general.
“Today it is not enough to organize ourselves; today we have to fight for institutions, for democracy, and for Mexico’s future,” said Cora Amalia Castilla Madrid, the party’s state president, who led the event. She called for strengthening internal unity, grassroots work, and closeness with party members.
The appointment of Mendoza Pino returns a figure with political experience in Tulum to the forefront of the local PRI. She served as municipal president between 2011 and 2013 during the early part of Roberto Borge Angulo’s term as governor. Her administration ended abruptly after a political confrontation with the then-governor led to her removal and subsequent imprisonment; Martín Cobos Villalobos was appointed in her place.
During the party transition, outgoing leader Rafael Domínguez and former secretary general Sandra Susana Amezcua Alcalá were recognized for their work. The state leadership emphasized that the PRI must regain territorial presence and rebuild ties with citizen sectors.
The event included former governor Joaquín Hendricks Díaz, who closed the ceremony, along with representatives from the CNC, CNOP, municipal leaders from Othón P. Blanco and Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and PRI members from Tulum.
