Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A Nissan pickup truck, apparently driven under the influence of alcohol, veered off the asphalt surface and fell from the top of the bridge located at the exit of Puerto Aventuras on Federal Highway 307, shortly after midnight Tuesday morning. After the impact, the driver abandoned the vehicle through a window, according to traffic safety authorities.
Motorists traveling on the federal highway alerted emergency services about the overturned vehicle on its side on the bridge’s shoulder. Elements of the National Guard, roads division, arrived at the scene to conduct forensic examinations and confirmed that the driver was not present.
Multiple beer cans were found inside the cabin, leading authorities to presume the operator was driving with alcohol in his system at the time of the accident. Authorities ordered the removal of the vehicle with a tow truck and its transfer to the impound lot for the corresponding legal procedures.
So far, no arrests or injuries have been reported, although investigations continue to establish responsibilities and possible sanctions in accordance with current traffic legislation.
