Violence Against Women in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The tranquility of Playa del Carmen was interrupted during the course of this afternoon following two separate aggressions against women at different points along Juarez Avenue, prompting a significant mobilization of Municipal Police and specialized victim support units.

The incidents occurred less than an hour apart and have kept authorities engaged in investigative work and the search for those responsible.

First Incident on 85th Street

The first incident took place in a residence on 85th Street, where a woman was allegedly assaulted by her partner. Neighbors reported hearing shouts and blows coming from the home, leading officers to respond to the location and provide support to the victim. Personnel from the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender-Based Violence attended the scene to offer accompaniment and protection.

Second Attack with Glass Fragment

Shortly afterward, another violent event was reported on the same avenue, between 95th and 100th Streets, where a woman was attacked with a fragment of glass, causing an injury to her mouth in addition to blows to her face. Paramedics transported her to a hospital, while security forces deployed an operation to locate the aggressor, who managed to flee the scene.

Ongoing Investigations and Patrols

The State Attorney General's Office maintains open investigation files and has reinforced patrols in the area to prevent new cases.
