CANCÚN — With the goal of strengthening environmental awareness and promoting the protection of the manatee, a species in danger of extinction, Dolphin Discovery celebrated the International Manatee Day for the ninth consecutive year with a series of educational and recreational activities across various points in Quintana Roo.

The activities began on September 7, the official date of the commemoration, and continued through the month of October. Simultaneous events were held in the habitats of Isla Mujeres, Puerto Aventuras, and Cozumel, where more than 570 people participated in workshops, dynamic activities, and talks about the conservation of this marine species.

"The manatee is a key species for the health of aquatic ecosystems. With these activities, we seek for the new generations to understand their value and become agents of change for their conservation," stated Rosy Cerrillos, Corporate Manager of Marine Mammal Specialists for The Dolphin Company.

As part of the program, an educational exhibition was held at La Gran Plaza in Cancún, which attracted nearly 800 visitors over eight days. This included a special activation where 178 children learned about the ecological role of the manatee through games and educational materials. In total, the activities brought together more than 1,900 participants.

School visits to secondary schools were also conducted, benefiting more than 150 students with environmental awareness activities.

The closing event was held on October 28 at the Teatro de la Ciudad, with the participation of more than 250 attendees, including students, teachers, and families. During the event, conferences, workshops, live music, and a theater performance focused on the protection of manatees and their habitat were offered.

In collaboration with the programs Amar es Educar and Centinelas del Agua, as well as the companies Aguakan and the association Tlacuatitlán, interactive modules with games, educational materials, and talks about water care and biodiversity were installed. Furthermore, the event guaranteed inclusion with the presence of a Mexican Sign Language interpreter and materials in braille.
