Cancún, Mexico — The city of Cancún offers at least 14 weekly cultural events as entertainment options for both residents and tourists, with approximately 80% of them being free of charge. However, these events require greater promotion, which will now be facilitated through a QR code linking to a dedicated webpage created by the Benito Juárez municipal government.
Expanding Cultural Outreach Through Technology
Carlos López Jiménez, Director of Culture in Benito Juárez, explained that as part of the “Distrito Cancún” program and its new QR code initiative, special emphasis is being placed on cultural events held in the city center. The goal is to encourage tourists staying in beachfront accommodations to explore the urban area.
In addition to regular programming, special events bring the monthly total to at least 76, with independent groups and street artists contributing to over 100 options. Weekly events include “Tardes de Baile” (Dance Afternoons) at the Crucero and Plaza de la Reforma, as well as “Noches Caribeñas” (Caribbean Nights) and “Así canta Cancún” (This Is How Cancún Sings), among others.

A Diverse Cultural Calendar
López Jiménez noted, “There is a main schedule displaying the dates and locations of these events, many of which are free. Additionally, the municipal Directorate of Culture organizes other monthly events involving choirs, dance troupes, and theater companies.”
Private initiatives and independent artist associations also contribute to the cultural landscape, offering musical performances, solo acts, and artisan exhibitions. The city aims to host large-scale events attracting 10,000 to 20,000 attendees, such as the Feria del Queso de Bola (Edam Cheese Fair), the Guelaguetza festival, the Cancún International Music Festival, and the Harp Festival. Approximately 60% of these major events are free and feature national and international guests.
The extensive cultural agenda is designed to cater to visitors seeking afternoon or evening activities, further enhancing Cancún’s appeal as a destination for both entertainment and cultural enrichment.
