Cancun, Mexico — The Sistema para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF) Benito Juárez has announced the launch of the "Medical Ocular Prosthesis Program 2025," which will take place on October 8 at the institution's facilities located in supermanzana 94.
The program, coordinated by the Directorate of Health Services and the Coordination of Special Medical Programs, aims to assist people who have an absence or loss of the eyeball due to natural causes, illness, accidents, or maxillofacial defects.
According to the general director of DIF, Marisol Sendo Rodríguez, the initiative has the objective of strengthening the health, self-esteem, and social reintegration of the beneficiaries by providing them with an ocular prosthesis in a dignified and free manner.
The director of Medical Services, María del Carmen Cervantes Martínez, reported that medical evaluations will be carried out on October 8 starting at 10:00 hours in the Ocular Prosthesis Clinic "Salón de la Familia" of the social organization. Specialists from the School of Dentistry of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Division of Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Postgraduate Studies and Research, as well as doctors from the University of Campeche will participate.
Subsequently, on October 9, 10, and 11, the specialists will manufacture and provide maintenance to the ocular and maxillofacial prostheses at the UNAM Maxillofacial Prosthesis Clinic. Once the evaluations and fabrication of the pieces are completed, DIF Benito Juárez will make the official delivery to the benefited patients.
The authorities highlighted that this support represents significant savings for families, as an ocular prosthesis on the market costs between 25,000 and 30,000 pesos, but in this program it will be provided completely free of charge.
Capacity will be limited, and interested parties are recommended to attend on October 8 with comfortable clothing, food, and personal medications. For more information, citizens can contact the medical area of DIF at 998 888 8921 ext. 351 or send their full name, age, and CURP in advance via WhatsApp to 998 144 3662.
