Cancún, Quintana Roo — The DIF Benito Juárez system held its fourth annual “Sombrero Breakfast for Women” on Thursday, an event that combined creativity with charity to support vulnerable populations in the municipality.

Speaking on behalf of Mayor Ana Paty Peralta, DIF Director General Marisol Sendo Rodríguez said the breakfast “not only celebrates creativity, but also the will to help, share, and transform lives through small but great acts of generosity.”

Alongside Verónica Lezama Espinosa, president of the DIF Quintana Roo system, Sendo Rodríguez awarded prizes in the traditional hat contest. The group category winner was “Las Flamingas,” while the individual first prize went to “Luces de Esperanza.” Second and third places were awarded to “Pastel de bodas” and “Sombrera Loca,” respectively.

The event also featured a donation of 200,000 pesos (about $10,000 USD) from Grupo Rosa Negra, represented by Verónica Escalante Rodríguez. Sendo Rodríguez said the funds would go toward strengthening DIF social programs, including the DIF Pilares center in Supermanzana 227, directly improving quality of life for residents.

“I want to especially thank Mrs. Verónica Escalante, representative of Grupo Rosa Negra, for her altruistic support,” Sendo Rodríguez said. “Her contribution goes beyond an event — it becomes an opportunity to bring hope to those who need it most.”

The director also thanked volunteers, participants, and civil society, emphasizing that every effort helps build a more supportive community. “Thank you for showing that when we unite with a purpose, we can generate a positive and lasting impact on many people’s lives,” she said.

The breakfast tradition was revived in 2023 and has become a signature charity event. Grupo Rosa Negra has donated the venue at the Taboo restaurant for four consecutive years.
