Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Secretariat of Sustainable Environment and Climate Change (SEMA) and the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA), in coordination with local authorities and civilian assistance, responded to a report of a male deer sighting in a public area near the Playacar tourist zone.

Incident Details

Around midday, a call was placed to emergency services (911) after the deer was spotted wandering through the area, startling tourists and residents. Nearby merchants secured the frightened animal while awaiting the arrival of environmental officials.

Personnel from Civil Protection, PROFEPA, and SEMA arrived promptly to provide proper handling and ensure the animal’s safety. The deer was found in good physical condition and was successfully relocated away from the urban area.

Public Guidelines for Wildlife Encounters

Authorities reiterated the importance of proper protocol when encountering wild animals. Citizens are urged to call 911 and provide the following details:

  • Exact location of the incident.
  • The animal’s condition (healthy, injured, or deceased).
  • Whether the animal is freely moving, trapped, or hiding.
  • Its behavior (aggressive, fearful, or calm around humans).

This information ensures an appropriate response from federal, state, or municipal agencies, including PROFEPA, SEMA, or Civil Protection.

Witnesses are asked to remain on-site to assist responders in locating and containing the animal. After capture, a medical evaluation is conducted. If necessary, the animal is transported to a wildlife shelter for treatment before being released in a safe, non-urban area.
