Decomposing Body of Missing Man Found Inside Playa del Carmen Home

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The body of a man was found Saturday afternoon in an advanced state of decomposition inside a home at the intersection of Abocetas street and Avenida de los Ganzos Pescadores, after neighbors reported they had not seen him for several days.

Residents of the area said the man’s prolonged absence had begun to raise concern, particularly because there was no movement inside the property.

Their unease grew on Friday, when some neighbors noticed vultures circling the house and detected unusual odors coming from inside, prompting them to call the authorities.

Emergency personnel and security forces arrived at the scene and confirmed the man showed no signs of life. Because of the condition in which the body was found, officials could not immediately determine how long he had been dead.

Personnel from the State Prosecutor’s Office carried out the corresponding inquiries and later ordered the body transferred to the Forensic Medical Service, where tests will be performed to establish the cause of death.

Authorities have so far not said whether there are signs of violence or any other circumstance that would indicate how the man died, leaving the case under investigation.
