In Playa del Carmen, Mexico, thousands of people recently participated in the second night of the Day of the Dead Festival. The local cemetery, a popular site for both locals and tourists, will remain open until midnight on November 2nd.

This year, visitor numbers are expected to rise, with estimates ranging from 70,000 to 80,000. This is a significant increase from the 60,000 who attended the previous year. The festival features floral decorations, arches, and altars created by local artisans. The cemetery has become a tourist attraction, drawing both domestic and international visitors keen to learn more about local traditions and culture.

Guided tours, in partnership with local tourism companies, offer visitors the chance to hear local stories and Mayan legends. Both the local community and tourists are encouraged to visit the cemetery to keep traditions alive and honor the memory of their loved ones.

The local government, including Municipal President Estefanía Mercado and Secretary of Public Services Julieta Martín Azueta, have been thanked for their support in preserving these local customs.
