Cancun, Mexico — Hoteliers in Cancun see the upcoming holiday bridges for Day of the Dead and Thanksgiving as the ideal opportunity to increase occupancy, after having endured several months of low demand. Based on projections from reservation books, they expect to reach between 70 and 75 percent of rooms in use during those dates, according to the Secretary of Tourism, Juan Pablo de Zulueta Razo.

Day of the Dead and Thanksgiving Strengthen Tourism

For his part, Rodrigo de la Peña Segura, president of the Association of Hotels of Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, stated that signs of recovery are already being observed, with an increase in seat availability and in the frequency of flights to the Mexican Caribbean.

"This reactivation will allow airlines to deploy new equipment, which strengthens expectations for the upcoming winter season," he commented.

Hotel Strategies and Cultural Events

This combination of cultural tradition and hotel offerings aims to extend the stay of visitors and motivate tourists to choose the Mexican Caribbean as their destination for these dates. With this objective, various resorts and hotel chains have activated promotional campaigns and special bonuses.

For example, Beachscape Kin Ha Villas & Suites is already promoting its 'Thanksgiving 2025' package, with up to 59 percent discount and family options. Other establishments are offering additional nights at no cost, themed dinners, park admissions, or free stays for children.

Preparation of Decorated Offerings

These strategies are complemented by the promotion of cultural events accompanying the Day of the Dead celebrations. At Kempinski Cancun, for instance, they are preparing decorated altars and special menus for the Night of the Dead; while at Rosewood Mayakoba, guests will be able to participate in workshops for catrinas and catrines, luminous processions, and dinners under the ceiba tree.

Furthermore, the Festival of Traditions of Life and Death at Xcaret, from October 30 to November 2, will offer altars, shows, workshops, traditional gastronomy, and gala concerts, establishing itself as one of the main cultural attractions of the Mexican Caribbean.
