Cancun, Mexico — A cyclist died Friday night after being struck by a pickup truck in Cancun, with the driver fleeing the scene, authorities reported.
The crash occurred around 9 p.m. on Andrés Quintana Roo Avenue near Kinik Avenue, close to Plaza Outlet.
According to initial reports, the man, whose identity has not been released, was traveling north when the pickup truck hit him, throwing him onto the pavement.
Witnesses reported the incident, prompting a response from Municipal Traffic Police, Municipal Police, and paramedics. Upon arrival, paramedics confirmed the cyclist had died.
After the crash, the driver fled the area. Police officers launched a search operation but did not locate the suspect.
Forensic experts from the State Prosecutor’s Office later transported the body to the Medical Examiner’s Office and collected evidence to determine the circumstances of the incident.
