Cyclist Killed After Being Crushed by Dump Truck in Chetumal Neighborhood

Chetumal, Mexico — A man riding a bicycle died after being hit and crushed by a dump truck Friday evening in Chetumal’s Nuevo Progreso neighborhood.

The fatal accident occurred around 7 p.m. at the intersection of 4 de Marzo and Armadillo avenues.

Witnesses said the man, approximately 30 years old, was riding normally on his bicycle when he failed to notice an approaching dump truck. The vehicle struck him and then crushed him, causing immediate death.

Red Cross paramedics arrived minutes later and confirmed the man showed no vital signs.

State police officers cordoned off the area until personnel from the State Prosecutor’s Office arrived to remove the body and transport it to the forensic medical service.

Police detained the dump truck driver and later transferred him to the public prosecutor’s office.
