Cancún, Quintana Roo — Residents of Supermanzana 77 in the Jardines de Bonampak neighborhood were startled yesterday afternoon when they spotted a crocodile, prompting the mobilization of the Heroic Fire Department, who managed to secure the reptile for relocation.
The incident occurred on Jardines de Tulipanes Street, where inhabitants of block 17 observed a crocodile walking on the road near Bonampak Avenue. Fearing it might attack someone, they reported it to emergency services via 911.
Around 1:30 PM, elements of the Heroic Fire Department arrived at the neighborhood and interviewed residents, who informed them that the reptile had entered the garden of a house and was being monitored.
Firefighters maneuvered to first contain the crocodile and prevent it from leaving the area. After various techniques, they managed to secure it, tying it with a rope, placing its legs toward the back, and taping its snout to avoid bite risks.
The firefighters explained that the animal would be relocated to the lagoon area, as it was presumed to have come from the mangrove area located on Bonampak Avenue, toward Punta Sam or in front of the Universidad del Caribe. To avoid risks to the civilian population, they would transport it to its habitat.
Authorities indicated that residents of the area were not put at risk, as they remained alert to any dangerous situations.
They also emphasized that sightings of crocodiles and wildlife should be reported to the emergency number 911, so authorities can intervene quickly and safely to ensure citizen security.
