Critical Hurricane Season Looms Over Quintana Roo, but No Immediate Threat

Tropical weather systems near Quintana Roo during hurricane season

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Quintana Roo faces no direct threat from any tropical system, but state authorities are keeping a close watch as the peak of hurricane season approaches, according to Guillermo Núñez Leal, the state’s civil protection coordinator.

Núñez Leal said one of the two zones under observation has dissipated, while the other is still being tracked. That system is moving north over the Antilles and Cuba, with no trajectory pointing toward the state’s coastline.

The official urged residents not to let their guard down, noting that hurricane season still has three months to go and weather conditions can shift quickly.

“There is no risk at the moment; we are in the middle of the season,” he said. “We still have three months ahead.”

Rainfall in the region is typical for this time of year and has helped temporarily ease high temperatures, Núñez Leal added. In the municipalities of Lázaro Cárdenas and Isla Mujeres, temperatures have reached between 38 and 39 degrees Celsius.
