Cancún, Mexico — A serious traffic accident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, January 7, in the Paseos del Mar neighborhood of Cancún, after a private car ended up overturned after being struck by a pickup truck. The incident prompted the mobilization of emergency services and traffic authorities in region 251.
According to initial reports, the crash happened around 08:19 at the intersection of Isla Haití and Isla Obsidiana streets. For reasons that have not yet been clarified, a white and black Ford Courier pickup truck collided with a red Dodge Atos vehicle. The force of the impact caused the compact car to roll over and come to rest on its right side, causing alarm among residents of the area.
After the accident, residents of the neighborhood immediately came out of their homes to assist the occupants of both vehicles and requested support through the emergency number 911. Scattered remains of recently slaughtered chicken, which were being transported in plastic boxes inside the pickup truck, were left at the scene, evidencing the magnitude of the crash and momentarily complicating vehicle traffic.
The driver of the Dodge Atos was injured and was treated at the site by paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross. Subsequently, the injured person was transferred to a hospital to receive specialized medical attention and rule out possible more serious injuries. No official information has been released so far regarding their health status.
Personnel from the municipal Traffic Department also arrived at the site, who cordoned off the area and conducted the corresponding investigation to determine the causes of the accident and assign responsibility. Once the procedures were completed, authorities ordered the removal of the involved vehicles and their transfer to an impound lot.
