Cozumel’s Museum of the Island Opens Exhibition by Architect José Manuel Sáenz ‘Txepo’

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel (FPMC) has opened “Arte + Arquitectura. Utopía – Sueños – Realidades,” an exhibition by architect José Manuel Sáenz, known as “Txepo,” in Temporary Exhibition Hall 1 at the Museum of the Island.

At the opening, museum director Isela Carrillo Cupul noted that the artist studied architecture at the Tecnológico de Monterrey and has long maintained a close interest in nature, a relationship reflected in his pursuit of designs and architectural spaces that exist in harmony with their surroundings.

Txepo said his work grows out of observation of the real world as well as the invisible territories that live in dreams, memory and imagination. Under the premise “Searching for reality between dreams and awakenings,” his career brings together art, architecture and underwater exploration as ways of understanding the world.

Each painting, drawing, sculpture or architectural project in the show explores the boundaries between the tangible and the intangible, between what can be seen and what can only be sensed. The exhibition invites viewers to reflect on how people inhabit spaces and relate to nature.

FPMC board members Ana López Campos and Alejandro Queb Franco attended the opening and presented the artist with a recognition for sharing his work with the community and with visitors to the Museum of the Island.

FPMC director general Juanita Alonso Marrufo said that creating spaces where artists and the community can meet expands access to culture and supports social wellbeing. She invited residents and visitors to see the exhibition free of charge and to discover Txepo’s vision, in which dreams, art and architecture converge to imagine other ways of understanding and inhabiting our surroundings.
