Cozumel Expects Record Summer With Up to 12,000 Daily Visitors
Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Cozumel has kicked off the summer vacation season with strong expectations for the tourism sector, driven by growth in cruise arrivals, international sporting events, and improved air connectivity.
Elías Farah Ceh, Cozumel’s tourism director, said the island expects hotel occupancy to rise by 8 to 10 percentage points in the coming weeks, thanks to additional visitors drawn by events such as the Night Half Marathon, Mayanman, and Oceanman, all scheduled for this summer.
From January to July, more than 2.8 million cruise passengers have arrived on the island, an 11% increase compared to the same period last year, solidifying Cozumel’s position as a top Caribbean cruise destination.
Projections also point to days with up to 12,000 daily visitors arriving from Playa del Carmen. Meanwhile, increased frequencies by Viva Aerobús from Monterrey and additional operations by Aeroméxico will help boost domestic tourist mobility and maintain a positive economic dynamic during the holiday season.
