Cancun, Quintana Roo — The arrest of Ramiro “N,” alias “El Gordo,” for the murder of a mototaxi driver in April has sparked controversy over inconsistencies between the official account and media reports.
According to a statement from the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE), the crime occurred on April 8 in the Supermanzana 510 neighborhood, where the victim was shot while driving a mototaxi.
However, news reports from the day of the homicide and sources close to the investigation indicate the killing took place in the Region 227 area on Avenida Chetumal, near Avenida Lombardo Toledano (Costa Maya). The victim was a mototaxi operator for the Isla-Cun organization.
The discrepancy has raised questions about the accuracy of the official information, as no public records show a homicide matching that description in Supermanzana 510 on that date.
Prosecutors allege Ramiro “N” acted with another individual, and the motive may be linked to drug-dealing debts. During the arrest, officers seized suspected marijuana, crystal meth, a mototaxi, a scale, and a cellphone.
The suspect has been brought before a judge and ordered held in pretrial detention while the investigation continues.
The FGE has not yet clarified the conflicting location details.
