Cozumel, Mexico — The "Almas con Tradición" (Souls with Tradition) festival in Cozumel is confirmed to take place from October 28 to November 2. The event aims to strengthen the island's tourism profile with activities involving both local residents and visitors.

Carmen Beatriz Moreno, Director of General Events, explained that this year a series of activities are planned, including the participation of hotels and their guests, who will take part in lighting candles at the local cemetery.

The Festival "Almas con Tradición" will pay homage to the workers who shaped the daily life of the island. This fifth edition of the festival, celebrating the arrival of the souls of those who departed from this earthly plane, will be dedicated to the workers of Cozumel, especially bakers, ice cream vendors, and those who practiced any trade that enriched the city's daily life.

The event will maintain elements such as the Procession of Souls and visits to cemeteries, including lecture cycles, with an added boost this year through promotion in the regional and local tourism sector with tourists staying on the island during these days.

On October 28, the Procession of Souls is scheduled, starting from Benito Juárez park, continuing along Quinta Avenida until reaching the San Miguel de Cozumel cemetery, where candles will be lit to create figures related to the celebration of the return of the souls of those who passed away. Tourists and residents will participate together in lighting candles and traditional offerings.

Moreno said other activities have been scheduled, such as the presentation of a sample of Mucbi Pollo and Pan de Muerto (Day of the Dead Bread), traditional elements within the culture of the Yucatán Peninsula, and as part of the offerings dedicated to the faithful departed.

For this edition, significant promotion has also been carried out through the Tourism Directorate, achieving international reach, with the arrival of tourists who are already setting aside these dates in their agendas to participate in these living traditions on the island, which have already been adopted even by foreigners residing in the city.

In summary, she noted, this is an event that will not only attract the inhabitants of Cozumel but also tourists, who are expected to increase hotel occupancy during these days. The 2025 edition promises to strengthen the cultural and tourist promotion of Cozumel during the Day of the Dead.
