Bacalar, Quintana Roo — The Copa Azur 2026 sailing regatta concluded the Quintana Roo State Sailing Circuit this weekend, selecting the team that will represent the state at the CONADE National Olympics later this year.
More than 100 athletes from across the state and the Yucatan Peninsula gathered at Bacalar Lagoon for the event, organized by the Quintana Roo Sailing Association and the Bacalar Nautical Club. The regatta featured challenging conditions and marked one of the most well-attended competitions at the natural venue.
The event received support from the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council and the Bacalar municipal government, contributing to both sports development and tourism promotion for the destination.
Winners by Class
In the Optimist class, Otis Cardow Bale Douglas from the Bacalar Nautical Club took first place, followed by Eloisa Padilla Lynch from the Puerto Aventuras Sailing School and David Dusek Galuskova, also from the host club.
In the ILCA classes, Mia Acuña Carrion dominated ILCA 4, while Luana Borrego García won ILCA 6, both representing the Puerto Aventuras Sailing School. Juan Pablo Santana Alcocer claimed victory in ILCA 7 for Puerto Cancún.
In board disciplines, Mateo Beckman from Puerto Los Cabos won the IQFOIL class, securing his qualification for the Youth World Championship in the specialty. Pablo Campo Alonso from the Bacalar Nautical Club triumphed in the BIC Techno class, while Aldo Ancona Rejón from Puerto Aventuras took first in Windsurf Legends.
Finally, in the Hobie 16 class, the duo of Emilio Vales and Sofía Molina from the Yucatan Yacht Club earned the top spot.
The competition highlighted technical skill and participant diversity, with this final stage determining the state ranking ahead of the National Olympics. The event reinforced the sustained growth of sailing in Quintana Roo and the emergence of new talent.
