Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Companies responsible for damaged manhole covers and utility access points in Playa del Carmen have been given until May 20 to complete repairs or face penalties. The directive, issued by municipal authorities, aims to improve urban aesthetics and ensure public safety.
Enforcement of Repairs
Hernán González, head of the Secretariat of Territorial Planning for Playa del Carmen, stated that representatives from the affected companies attended a meeting where they committed to addressing the infrastructure issues.
“The priority is to beautify the municipality and create an urban image worthy of Playa del Carmen’s residents,” González said.
The most frequently reported issues involve infrastructure maintained by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Aguakan (water utility), and Telmex (telecommunications). Authorities have urged these companies to expedite repairs.
“There is a real commitment from the companies to achieve urban improvement, and that starts with fixing the most urgent issue: the manhole covers,” González added.
Gas Natural’s Road Repairs
Regarding Gas Natural, whose work has severely damaged Avenida 10, González confirmed discussions with the company. He stated that Gas Natural has pledged to accelerate repairs on the heavily impacted road, located in a key tourist zone.
The municipal government emphasized that failure to meet the May 20 deadline will result in sanctions for non-compliant companies.
