Cozumel, Mexico — The "Huellas de Conciencia" event took place this weekend at the Punta Sur Ecotourism Park, an experience combining meditation with environmental awareness and the restoration of the mangrove ecosystem, organized by the Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel (FPMC).

Members of the community gathered at the beach of Punta Sur, where, accompanied by meditation teacher Luis Miguel Pérez Martín, they experienced a morning of introspection, vibrating with the sound of the sea, feeling the texture of the sand, and the energy of the natural surroundings.

Subsequently, the participants moved to the educational plot at Xtacún Lagoon, within the Laguna Colombia ecological reserve, where the director of the Punta Sur Ecotourism Park, Jesús Benavides Andrade, explained the community work carried out for almost 20 years in the restoration of the mangrove ecosystem.

Through this activity, they learned about the importance of mangroves for human life and their role as a reservoir of biodiversity and as agents responsible for carbon capture, which are also closely linked to the ecosystems that converge in the reserve.

Afterwards, attendees took a tour of the Laguna Colombia aboard the catamaran Tatich to see firsthand the progress of the mangrove ecosystem restoration program led by the FPMC, hand in hand with society.

In this context, the general director of the FPMC, Juanita Alonso Marrufo, highlighted that these actions align with the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, which recognizes environmental education and community participation as fundamental elements to guarantee a sustainable and just future for all.

With initiatives like this, the FPMC reaffirms its commitment to fostering environmental awareness and the care of ecosystems, and the integration of the community in the transformation towards a more prosperous Quintana Roo in harmony with nature.
