Colombian Tourist Killed in Hit-and-Run on Playa del Carmen Highway

Emergency services at the scene of a fatal accident on Federal Highway 307 in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A Colombian tourist died after being struck by a vehicle on Federal Highway 307 near the Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda hotel, authorities said.

The woman, approximately 35 years old, had just left the resort when a white Cupra car traveling from Playa del Carmen toward Cancún hit her. The impact threw her several meters onto the central median, killing her instantly.

Emergency responders arrived minutes later, but paramedics confirmed she had no vital signs due to the severity of her injuries.

The accident caused a traffic standstill on the busy highway connecting the tourist destinations of Playa del Carmen and Cancún.

Officers from the Secretariat of Public Security cordoned off the scene while investigators from the Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office conducted inquiries and removed the body to the Forensic Medical Service.

Municipal authorities detained the driver as the alleged responsible party and turned him over to the Prosecutor’s Office to determine his legal status.
