Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A citizen has publicly accused the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) clinic of negligence in the treatment of her mother.
She stated that her mother has a condition requiring urgent surgical intervention and has not yet received care; despite the severity of her condition, medical staff intend to discharge her from the hospital.
According to the testimony, more than a week has passed since her mother began experiencing various ailments, including vomiting, fever, and intense pain. In response to this situation, she went to the ISSSTE hospital twice to request care, but during the second visit, she was admitted without receiving the urgent ultrasound she needed.
Due to this omission, the patient had to be transferred to a private clinic to undergo the medical study, the cost of which was covered by her family members. The results revealed the presence of gallstones, one of which is obstructing her, causing an injury that could lead to a serious infection if not treated promptly. However, at the ISSSTE, the necessary tests to confirm this complication have not yet been performed.
The woman has been hospitalized for a week, during which she also stopped receiving her medication to control hypertension, causing her levels to rise to 170.
Furthermore, she was informed that her condition “can wait” until next year, implying that she will not be operated on in the short term, as medical staff will begin their vacation starting Saturday.
The family members called on state authorities to address the case and provide immediate medical attention, fearing that her health condition will worsen.
They indicated that it is a right by law, but they are attempting to discharge her despite her delicate condition and stated that they do not have more than 40,000 pesos to cover private care.
