Cancún’s Christmas Village Features Burrito Sabanero and Giant Piñatas

Burrito Sabanero piñata displayed in Cancún's Christmas Village

Cancún, Mexico — With the December holidays approaching, the Christmas Village is returning to Cancún, offering attractions for families at various points in the city. Additionally, the image of the “Burrito Sabanero” piñata will be installed once again.

Carlos del Castillo, director of the Cancún District program, announced that decoration of more than 10 roundabouts in different parts of the city will begin in the first days of December.

“This year we have a closer collaboration between the companies that provide this decoration and the Benito Juárez municipality, as the design of the decorations will be handled by the authorities to ensure uniformity in the thematic concept,” he said.

This time, there will be giant piñatas, a monumental nativity scene, and a Santa Claus that will attract a lot of attention, he added. Meanwhile, the Burrito Sabanero will continue because it has already become a reference point for Cancún’s Christmas celebrations, as hundreds of people, both locals and tourists, come to take photos and videos.

He recalled that this figure was installed during the first stage of the roundabouts at Uxmal and Tulum, near the bus terminal, then it was at Malecón Tajamar, and now it will be placed permanently at Plaza de la Reforma, in front of the municipal palace.

The purpose is to have photo stops. The goal is to promote social interaction, strengthen traditions, and celebrate the December holidays with residents and tourists.

In 2024, 21,000 people participated in activities, and they now hope to add more. The Christmas Village will feature various activities and will be open to the public for just over a month. This site will have different themes, such as “Construlandia,” “Laboratory of Sciences,” “Dulcelandia,” and “Chocolandia,” among others.

“The village includes again an ecological synthetic ice skating rink, mechanical games, and a pavilion with artisan and food stalls,” he explained.
