Mérida, Yucatán — Amid a family atmosphere and with great enthusiasm, Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada lit the traditional 20-meter-tall Tree at the End of Paseo de Montejo last night, marking the beginning of December celebrations in Mérida.
“As every year we start with the Tree at the End, but today Mérida shines brighter than ever because we bring this joy to many more spaces, filling it with family unity and togetherness, because that’s what Christmas means, peace and love in every home,” she said.
During the event, the Mayor highlighted that in 2025, for the first time, the City Council will light eight Christmas trees distributed at various points in the city, allowing thousands of families to enjoy the magic of Christmas near their homes.
The celebration last night included the special presentation of the show by Morita and Karlita and their friends, who entertained girls and boys in a festive atmosphere. Families enjoyed music, games, and a colorful show prior to the long-awaited lighting.
This week Mérida will have tree lightings at La Arbolada, in San Antonio Xluch III; Del Parque subdivision, Colonia México, La Visita, in Juan Pablo II; the Plaza Grande, San Cristóbal park, Las Américas park, and La Placita at the Lucas de Gálvez market, to bring activities to all citizens.
The Mérida Brilla Christmas festival began yesterday and will extend until January 7, 2026, with an extensive free program for the enjoyment of Mérida residents.
