Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Municipal Civil Protection Department has issued suspension orders for a Chedraui supermarket located in Plaza Las Américas after inspectors identified electrical and structural hazards that endanger customers and employees.
The store received four suspension notices, the most recent under official record number 236. Among the violations were exposed electrical wiring and malfunctioning transformers, which authorities warned could detach and cause serious accidents.
Deadline for Compliance
Darwin Covarrubias, head of Civil Protection, stated that the store has 15 days to address the violations. Failure to do so, he cautioned, could result in permanent closure.
Similar enforcement actions were initiated at a Chedraui branch in Puerto Aventuras, where inspectors found comparable risks, particularly in the electrical system and ceiling panels.
Call for Compliance
Authorities urged businesses across Playa del Carmen to adhere to safety regulations to protect consumers who frequent these establishments daily.
