TULUM — The Osa Mayor Foundation A.C. has reported that Cecyte Tulum denied the use of its facilities for the “Family Planning 2030: Midwives, Guardians of Autonomy in Contraception” project, originally scheduled for November 24. Despite the request being submitted by the foundation’s Board of Directors, led by Sabrina Speich, since May, the school informed at the last minute that it could not provide the space, forcing the event to be moved to Zamná General Secondary School No. 15.

According to Speich, the foundation’s representative, the sudden change of venue caused logistical and operational complications. She stated that if the director of Cecyte Tulum, Carlos Javier Ramírez Acosta, knew in advance about another activity scheduled for that date, he should have notified them promptly to avoid setbacks. The event ultimately took place on November 25, coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, commemorated by the UN.

The “Family Planning 2030: Midwives, Guardians of Autonomy in Contraception” project aims to restore adolescents’ autonomy by revaluing midwifery as ancestral knowledge that promotes body connection and informed, conscious contraception. The initiative plans to empower 200 secondary and high school students, strengthening their skills, knowledge, and attitudes to make responsible decisions about their physical, emotional, and reproductive well-being.

The program is funded and supported by Family Planning 2030 (FP2030), an international organization dedicated to family planning and gender equality, which brings together partners from various sectors to place sexual and reproductive health at the center of the global agenda.

Sabrina Speich, in addition to directing the Osa Mayor Foundation, served as one of the main workshop facilitators. She holds a degree in German Studies and Social Behavior from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom, with training in natural medicine, homeopathy, herbalism, gender violence prevention, and victim care. She has been a speaker at multiple national and international meetings on maternal health and traditional midwifery.

Speich is a certified midwife, affiliated with the Network of Certified Midwives under ISO 17024, and currently directs the “Synergy Birth Collective” birth center, located in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.
