Cancún, Mexico — The "Carrusel" operation commenced this Thursday at 6:45 a.m. in Cancún. This strategy, implemented on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard, aims to reduce traffic risks and protect drivers and passengers. The monitored stretch runs from the airport cloverleaf to the Pioneros (ADO) roundabout, an area considered one of the most traveled and dangerous in the city.
The municipal president, Ana Paty Peralta, made an appeal to the population: "People of Cancún, respect the speed limits, your safety is the most important thing."
The Context of a Dangerous Road
Although Colosio Boulevard is a modern roadwork that complies with national and international standards, it has become the scene of tragedies in 2025. According to official data, 75 traffic accidents have been recorded on this roadway so far this year, resulting in 10 fatalities.
The primary cause is excessive speed, responsible for more than 70 percent of the incidents, followed by lane invasion and disregard for traffic signs.
What is the "Carrusel" Operation?
The Carrusel Operation consists of several Transit Police patrol cars driving in a line along the boulevard, maintaining the maximum permitted speed. In this way, vehicles traveling behind must adjust their pace, which prevents exceeding the limits and reduces the risk of accidents.
This mechanism, used in various cities across the country, seeks not only to control speed but also to generate a culture of prevention among motorists.
The implementation of the operation is a response to recent fatal accidents recorded in September, when seven members of a family of tourists lost their lives in a head-on collision. This event raised alarms about the need for increased surveillance on the Colosio.
