Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Sistema DIF Quintana Roo, through the Directorate of Attention to Girls, Boys, and Adolescents in Situations of Vulnerability (DANNASV), successfully conducted the election of the State Committee and the swearing-in ceremony of the "Captains of the Transformation 2025."
The event took place in the "Leona Vicario" Council Chamber of the Municipal Palace and brought together 60 children and adolescents from across the state. Participants actively engaged in presentations to select four representatives who will advocate for Quintana Roo before the National DIF System.
Commitment to Youth Rights
Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of Sistema DIF Quintana Roo, presided over the swearing-in ceremony and presented certificates to participating municipalities as well as the newly appointed members of the State Committee. She reaffirmed DIF's commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of children and adolescents, emphasizing that respecting their rights is essential for building a more just, equitable society with better opportunities for all.
"The voices of our children and adolescents deserve to be heard and taken into account. That is why, through DIF, we will continue working to ensure their rights are respected and promoted in every corner of Quintana Roo," she stated.
Lezama also expressed gratitude to the Quintana Roo Electoral Institute (IEQROO) for its collaboration in ensuring a transparent and clear election process.
Local and National Support
Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado Asencio delivered the welcoming remarks, celebrating the active participation of youth in this democratic process.
Also in attendance were Rubén Martínez, Director General of Normativity, Promotion, and Dissemination of the Rights of Children and Adolescents at the National DIF System; Abril Sabido Alcérreca, General Director of the State DIF; and Eduardo Ascencio, honorary president of DIF Playa del Carmen. They underscored the importance of creating spaces where children and adolescents can express themselves and participate in decision-making that directly impacts their quality of life, thereby strengthening their rights.

The event reinforced the institutional commitment to the comprehensive development of children and adolescents, encouraging their active involvement in issues affecting them and promoting their leadership as agents of change.
