Cancún’s Nichupté Bridge Draws 3,500 for Third Puenteando Nichupté Edition

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Nichupté Bridge filled with families, cyclists, runners, skaters and visitors on Sunday for the third edition of “Puenteando Nichupté,” a program led by Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa that opens public infrastructure for family recreation and active mobility. Officials put attendance at more than 3,500 people.

Lezama, accompanied by Verónica Lezama, honorary president of the DIF Quintana Roo family services agency, joined the event on a bicycle, riding alongside families who took in a sunset over the Nichupté lagoon and visited activity pavilions set up along the route.

New Social Run Added to Program

For four hours, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., children, teenagers, older adults, people with disabilities and families used the bridge over the Nichupté lagoon. The gathering continues a strategy that began in July and gives a social and community dimension to one of Cancún’s most emblematic pieces of infrastructure each month.

The main addition to the third edition was the Social Run course, opened from the Puente Rojo, which let runners choose routes of 3, 5 or 10 kilometers. Organizers also set up three main spaces — the recreational, entrepreneur and sports pavilions — with activities for all ages.

Special Transit Service for Attendees

The Quintana Roo Mobility for Wellbeing System (MOBI), headed by Rafael Hernández Kotasek, joined the effort to ease travel to the event. Route 27 Kilometer 0 ran a special service from OXXO Canarias to Retorno del Rey, near the Hard Rock in the Hotel Zone, from noon on Sunday until 2 a.m. Monday. The Route 27 Nichupté Bridge service was temporarily suspended while the special route operated.

Participating agencies included the Public Security Department (SSC), APIQROO, IMOVEQROO, the Quintana Roo Institute of Culture and the Arts (ICA), the Benito Juárez Institute of Culture and the Arts, the state DIF, the Economic Development Department (SEDE), the Quintana Roo Sports Commission (CODEQ) and the Ecology and Environment Department (SEMA).

The Benito Juárez municipal government also took part through its DIF, SIRESOL, Public Services, Civil Protection, the Fire Department and the Tourist Police. Benito Juárez Secretary General Pablo Gutiérrez attended on behalf of the city.
