Cancún, Quintana Roo — The cultural richness of Oaxaca will arrive in the Mexican Caribbean with the celebration of the Guelaguetza 2026 festival in Cancún, an event expected to become one of the most significant cultural gatherings of the season in Quintana Roo.
The event will take place at the iconic Malecón Tajamar on March 14, featuring a day dedicated to music, dance, cuisine, and traditions that distinguish Oaxacan culture.
Organizers designed the festival as an open cultural experience that will allow residents and visitors to closely experience the artistic and gastronomic expressions of one of Mexico’s most culturally diverse states.
Tradition and Art in the Caribbean
The Guelaguetza, considered Oaxaca’s premier cultural celebration, represents the spirit of community, cooperation, and pride in indigenous roots that characterize the different regions of that state.
For this special edition in Cancún, the program includes various activities highlighting Oaxacan identity and artistic richness. Among the most anticipated moments is the traditional costume parade, which will showcase the diversity of traditional textiles that form part of Oaxaca’s cultural heritage.
Attendees will also enjoy regional dances, presentations that show the history and traditions of different Oaxacan communities through music, dance, and colorful costumes.
Cuisine That Conquers Palates
One of the main attractions will be the gastronomic offerings, allowing visitors to sample some of Oaxaca’s most representative dishes.
Options will include tlayudas, tamales, various mole varieties, traditional garnachas, plus a wide selection of typical sweets and desserts.
Emblematic products like pan de yema, pan capricho, marquesitas, chapulines, and traditional chocolate will also be available, accompanied by beverages such as mezcal and ciruela curados that form part of Oaxaca’s culinary identity.

The Guelaguetza 2026 in Cancún will take place on Saturday, March 14 starting at 4:00 PM at the flagpole plaza of Malecón Tajamar, with completely free admission, enabling Cancún families and tourists visiting the destination during those dates to attend.
The event has the support of the Quintana Roo Tourism Department and the Quintana Roo Government, along with backing from partner companies including Aeroméxico and BYD, which join in promoting the state’s culture.
