Cancún, Quintana Roo – The Andrés Quintana Roo Taxi Union of Cancún has begun procedures to renew approximately 25% of its fleet of more than 8,600 units with electric vehicles, in response to regulations requiring the replacement of taxis over 10 years old.
Rubén Antonio Carrillo Buenfil, the union’s general secretary, detailed that they are seeking low-interest loans and attractive financing options so members can access these clean technologies.
The initiative aims not only to comply with mobility laws and improve service efficiency but also to respond to the global trend of transitioning to electric vehicles for environmental protection.
Carrillo Buenfil emphasized the importance of Mexico accelerating this change, following the example of Europe and the United States, to reduce environmental impact in a key tourist destination like Quintana Roo.
Electric vehicles offer additional benefits such as greater comfort for users due to their quiet operation, economic viability through lower maintenance costs and long-term fuel savings, plus being a sustainable option aligned with global environmental protection policies.
The union is holding meetings with specialized companies to position Cancún’s taxi drivers at the technological forefront, offering high-quality service that is responsible to the environment.
