Cancún, Mexico — From November 6 to 15, 2025, Cancún will serve as the host city for the National Theater Showcase, an event that will bring together theatrical productions from across the country for the enjoyment of art and culture enthusiasts, announced Carlos López Jiménez, Director General of the Benito Juárez Institute of Culture and Arts.

A Platform for National Talent

López Jiménez explained that municipal theater, dance, and choir companies will participate in the event. The call for submissions is already available on the official websites of the municipality, the state, and various cultural and artistic institutions.

He added that organizers anticipate receiving at least 800 theatrical proposals, from which approximately 30 will be selected to represent the nation. The event is expected to draw over 2,000 participants, including artists, production staff, and theater critics.

Multiple Venues Across the City

The cultural showcase will take place across several venues in Cancún, including the Teatro de la Ciudad, the Cancún Theater in the hotel zone, the 8 de Octubre Theater in the urban center, as well as the Álamos Theater and the Casa de la Cultura.

López Jiménez emphasized the significance of the event for theater lovers, noting that all performances will be free of charge, ensuring accessibility for thousands of residents and visitors in the tourist hub.

Economic and Tourism Benefits

From a tourism perspective, the event is expected to provide a substantial economic boost to Cancún. With over 2,000 attendees, organizers estimate approximately 1,200 room nights will be booked during the showcase. Additionally, local businesses—including restaurants, small eateries, artisan shops, and markets—are projected to benefit from increased spending.

The National Theater Showcase represents a major cultural milestone for Cancún, further solidifying its reputation as a destination for both tourism and the arts.
