In 2024, the municipality of Benito Juarez in Cancún has recorded 37 same-sex marriages. According to official data from the Civil Registry office, 21 of these marriages were between men and 16 were between women.

The director of the Civil Registry, Daniel Gallareta, explains that the state of Quintana Roo has made significant progress in this area. In 2012, it became the second state in Mexico to approve marriage equality. This change has opened up numerous benefits including access to social security, legal decision-making authority, and the ability to purchase real estate.

Additionally, marriage equality has simplified the adoption process and other legal procedures. In order to marry, couples must submit a marriage application and a letter of protest from both parties. They also need to provide their birth certificates, CURP, official identification, prenuptial analysis, medical certificates, and identification for their witnesses.
