Cancún, Mexico — Cancún is prepared to host more than 500 performing artists as it readies to be the host city, for the first time, of the 45th National Theater Showcase. The event breaks with the traditional state rotation format and will be held from November 6 to 15 in the municipality of Benito Juárez.
The director of the Cancún Institute of Culture and the Arts, Carlos López Jiménez, emphasized that this edition represents a historic event for the city and for the Mexican Caribbean, establishing itself as a major celebration of national theater with a diverse, inclusive, and internationally-focused program.
"All the logistics are ready; it will be the great festival of Mexican theater, with more than 27 productions from different latitudes, in addition to local proposals. More than 500 artists will participate, showcasing their theatrical poetics in themes that address migration, the border, and identity, which are so present in our state," stated López Jiménez.
The agenda includes performances for children, youth, and family audiences, as well as a book fair specializing in theater, with the presence of important national publishing houses.
A theatrical reflection meeting and an artistic linkage program will also be held. This program will allow Mexican companies to establish contact with 30 national artistic directors and 15 international directors from the United States, Uruguay, and Russia, who have confirmed their attendance to promote their productions inside and outside the country.
López Jiménez underscored that hosting this showcase positions Cancún as a new cultural reference point for the Mexican Caribbean and paves the way for a broad cultural agenda in the coming months, aimed at strengthening the performing arts and promoting local talent.
