Cancún — The Christmas spirit will return to Cancún with the anticipated installation of the Monumental Burrito Sabanero, a figure that has become a symbol of the holiday season in the city. Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta confirmed that in 2025, the emblematic burrito will be installed for the fourth consecutive year, although the exact inauguration date has not yet been defined.
The City Hall would once again be the likely site, a location that each year attracts thousands of Cancún residents and visitors eager to take photos and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
The Burrito Sabanero debuted in 2022, installed at the Glorieta de la Historia de México, opposite the ADO bus terminal. Standing 14 meters tall with a colorful design, the figure quickly went viral on social media, although the location was considered dangerous due to intense vehicular traffic.
In 2023, given its growing popularity, the structure was moved to the entrance of Malecón Tajamar, where it remained for a few days until a trough with strong winds knocked it over.
For 2024, it found a new home in front of the City Hall, at the Plaza de la Reforma, where it remained for the entire Christmas season thanks to a base reinforced with poured concrete that guaranteed its stability.
Last year's inauguration became a genuine celebration for the people of Cancún, who have now adopted the Burrito Sabanero as an official symbol of Christmas in the Mexican Caribbean. With its return confirmed, the residents of Cancún eagerly await the new edition of this tradition, which stands out not only for its size but also for representing joy, unity, and the festive spirit of the community.
