Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún is preparing a packed calendar of events over the coming months, from a world festival to culinary showcases and World Cup celebrations, as part of a strategy to diversify the destination beyond its famous beaches, tourism officials announced.
“We always want to innovate, we don’t want to do the same thing,” said Juan Pablo De Zulueta, Tourism Secretary for Benito Juárez municipality. “We want to bring different musical scenes and pavilions that represent different continents.”
The push follows a successful weekend that saw Cancún welcome 30,000 visitors for the Hyrox Cancún 2026 fitness racing competition. More than 10,000 national and international athletes participated in the event held Sunday, March 15, at the Tajamar Malecón.
The planning of activities across different sectors aims to establish Cancún not just as a sun-and-beach destination but as a premier international events hub attracting visitors from around the world.
The event calendar kicks off with the Cancún World Fest, scheduled for April 17-19. This event will serve as the closing celebration before Cancún’s 56th anniversary. For this edition, the festival has reached such a level of consolidation that it has attracted interest from numerous countries seeking to secure space in its programming.
This year, organizers are implementing a significant innovation in the cultural showcase format. The organization will shift from traditional representation based solely on individual countries to a more ambitious structure divided by continents, allowing for a richer and more varied exhibition of global cultures through specific pavilions and diverse musical stages.
The tourism agenda will continue in late May with an event called “Mar y Vino” (Sea and Wine), a proposal that seeks to highlight local gastronomy and wine culture against the backdrop of the Mexican Caribbean coast.
Following this event, the city’s attention will turn to strategic planning needed to capitalize on the World Cup, which will take place during June and July. Officials are working in advance to ensure local events don’t compete for public attention with the most significant matches of the international competition.
As a result of this logistical coordination, the anticipated Cancún Festa de la Pizza has been scheduled for early August. The event is conducted in close collaboration with Naples, Italy, with which Cancún maintains a sister-city relationship.
Regarding World Cup activities, officials are considering enabling the Andrés Quintana Roo Stadium as the epicenter of World Cup celebrations in Cancún, due to its intrinsic sports vocation and logistical facilities including ample parking areas and a strategic location near various commercial plazas and markets. This would allow fans to gather in a safe and accessible environment.
“Cancún, I always say, is the crown jewel,” De Zulueta concluded. “This varied events calendar presents itself as a key tool to strengthen the new promotional brand ‘All You Cancún’ and ensure the destination continues to offer unforgettable and diverse experiences to all its visitors.”
