CANCÚN — The Benito Juárez municipal government has shut down 10 irregular developments belonging to the Colorines real estate group, which were being promoted under the name "VíaMarina." The action was taken following a citizen complaint that alerted authorities to the projects' illegality.
Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández, the municipal secretary general, represented the head of the municipal government in leading the operation. Seals were placed to shut down the 10 projects, which were intended to be established in a high environmental conservation zone where it is not possible to guarantee basic services or urban infrastructure.
In addition to being located in an area unsuitable for urbanization, the developments lacked the necessary permits, licenses, and authorizations in matters of Urban Development from municipal, state, and federal authorities.
Gutiérrez Fernández emphasized that this action, directly instructed by Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta, reflects the administration's will and commitment to protecting the assets of Cancún's families. He stated the action ensures no one is deceived by illegal projects and reaffirms the importance of orderly and sustainable urban growth.
These closures are part of a permanent program led by the Benito Juárez City Hall to halt irregular projects that endanger the environment and affect the balanced development of Cancún.
The operation involved the participation of the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA), the State Attorney for Environmental Protection (PPA), the Municipal Secretariat of Ecology and Urban Development, the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit, as well as Civil Protection.
