“Cancún Hospital Makes Medical History with First Pacemaker Surgery”

In a landmark achievement for public health in Quintana Roo, the first successful permanent pacemaker implantation was carried out at the "Dr. Jesús Kumate Rodríguez" General Hospital in Cancún. The patient, a 69-year-old woman, had been diagnosed with a second-degree atrioventricular block, which caused irregular and slow heartbeats, significantly impacting her quality of life.

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has been a strong advocate for healthcare improvements and early detection of health issues. This approach has led to significant improvements in the wellbeing of the local population. In this case, a Holter test, performed at the hospital's cardiovascular unit, identified the urgent need for a permanent dual-chamber pacemaker to regulate the patient's heart rate effectively.

Flavio Carlos Rosado, the Secretary of Health of Quintana Roo, stated that this successful procedure sets a new benchmark for cardiac care in the northern region of Quintana Roo. He praised the medical and technical staff of the hospital's Hemodynamics Room, led by Dr. Víctor Gómez Saviñón, head of the Surgery Service, and Dr. Fabiola Suárez, a cardiologist specializing in arrhythmias.

The Hemodynamics Room not only offers cutting-edge technology for treatments such as pacemaker implantation and vascular endoprostheses, but it also bolsters Quintana Roo's ability to manage complex cardiology cases.

With another Hemodynamics Room set to open in Chetumal, access to these critical services is expected to expand further in the southern region of Quintana Roo. This development will benefit more people by providing timely diagnoses and effective treatments that can save lives and enhance the quality of life.
