Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe, located in Supermanzana 63 of Cancún, expects to receive more than 30,000 faithful during the Guadalupe celebrations, with the highest influx anticipated on the night of December 11 and early morning of December 12.
Municipal authorities confirmed that the site remains one of the main points of religious concentration in Quintana Roo during these dates, so surveillance and traffic support operations will be reinforced.
Antonio Riveroll, general director of Civil Protection of Benito Juárez, reported that the deployment is part of the Guadalupe-Reyes operation and responds to the request of Bishop Pedro Pablo Elizondo Cárdenas, who asked for greater official presence to protect pilgrims.
He explained that Civil Protection can only provide formal accompaniment to caravans that notify their route in advance; however, he acknowledged that a large part of the faithful attend by tradition without completing this procedure.
The accelerated growth of Cancún, combined with increased vehicular traffic from private and cargo units, raises risks for those making journeys on foot or by bicycle to the sanctuary.
Therefore, municipal authorities urged planning pilgrimages in advance and following the instructions of security forces to avoid incidents during the festivities in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe.
